Remove Aadhaar PDF Password

Unlock your e-Aadhaar PDF in seconds, free, and 100% private. Your Aadhaar is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Aadhaar PDF password = first 4 letters of your name in CAPITALS + your birth year. Example: RAVI1990

100% private, your PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to remove the password from your Aadhaar PDF

When you download your Aadhaar as a PDF (the "e-Aadhaar") from the UIDAI website, it arrives password-protected. Every time you open it, you have to type the password, which gets tedious when you need to submit your Aadhaar for KYC, college admission, a bank account, or a job. Removing the password once gives you a clean copy you can open and share without the repeated prompt.

To unlock it, drop the e-Aadhaar PDF above and enter its password: the first four letters of your name in capital letters, followed by your year of birth (for example, RAVI1990). Click Remove password and download the unlocked copy. The entire process happens inside your browser, your Aadhaar never leaves your device.

What is the Aadhaar PDF password format?

UIDAI protects every e-Aadhaar with a password derived from your own details, so only you can open it. The format is always the same:

  • First 4 letters of your name (as printed on the card), in UPPERCASE.
  • Immediately followed by your 4-digit year of birth.

Examples: SURE1985 for Suresh born in 1985, PRIY1998 for Priya born in 1998. If your name has fewer than four letters, use the whole name plus the birth year. If you get an "incorrect password" message, re-check the exact spelling and birth year as printed on the Aadhaar.

Why this is the safest way to unlock Aadhaar online

Your Aadhaar is among the most sensitive documents you own, so uploading it to an unknown website to "remove the password" is a real risk, you can't see what happens to the file or the password on their server. This tool never uploads anything. It uses a WebAssembly build of the open-source qpdf engine that runs directly in your browser, decrypts the PDF locally, and hands you the result. Nothing is stored or logged, and you can verify there's no network upload in your browser's developer tools.

The digital signature stays intact

Removing the open password does not affect the digital signature inside your Aadhaar PDF, since decryption is lossless. After unlocking, you can run a technical check of the signature and confirm the document is unmodified using our PDF signature validator. Want to add your own password to a different document instead? Use Lock PDF.
